SMART Board approves placing question on the 2024 November ballot

On September 5th, the SMART Board voted to place a question on the 2024 November Ballot asking voters to support the expansion of regional public transit service, including long term operations funding for the Gondola to ensure operations and maintenance of the Gondola as public transit service after 2027, and to help fund future bus service expansions and existing bus system capital needs.

SMART (San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation) is currently updating the 2019 Strategic Operating Plan which will help guide expansions and improvements of SMART’s services in the future. Based on public input collected this winter and data analysis of current operations, SMART has drafted a list of preliminary service improvements and expansions and would like your feedback on them!

A brief presentation will be given in first 15 minutes of each open house meeting. The open houses will take place at the following venues:

SMART Releases RFQ for Architectural, Engineering, and other Technical Services

SMART has released RFQ# 2023-3 requesting proposals from qualified multidisciplinary teams or individual firms to support SMART and its local partners in the development of a range of capital and operational projects. The complete RFQ, including anticipated project scope, timeline, submittal requirement etc, has been removed as the deadline has passed.

SMART Releases RFP for Professional Planning Services

SMART has released RFP# 2023-1 requesting proposals from qualified firms to assist in the development of a 5 Year Strategic Plan. The complete RFP, including anticipated project scope and timeline, has been removed as the deadline has passed.

SMART Begins Serving Mountain Village—Pilot Program

SMART will be implementing a pilot transit service that will operate between Lawson Hill and the Mountain Village Core, including a stop at the Mountain Village Town Hall/Market. This service is intended to provide a transit option for people who:

SMART is awarded Federal Grant of $2,568,000

SMART secures investment from the U. S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to expand the SMART fleet to serve more regional residents in San Miguel and Montrose Counties.

Transportation Study regarding Older Adults and/or Mobility Challenges

The San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) is leading a study to identify the transportation needs of older adults and those with mobility challenges.

After speaking with community members, local service organizations, and reviewing available data, SMART has created potential solutions to improve specialized transportation access to older adults and those with mobility challenges. If you or someone you know is an older adult or has a disability and needs specialized transportation, SMART wants your input on which improvements would best address existing needs.
