SMART – the San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation is hiring a full-time Business and Communications Manager. Top applicants will have proven skills in the following areas:

  • Grant Management: This position will oversee SMARTs state and federal grants with an eye on contract performance, reporting, and compliance. SMART has established itself in good standing with funding partners and this position will be responsible for maintaining those relationships and SMARTs credibility with these outside agencies.
  • Budgeting: Working with project managers, operations staff, the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, this position will lead the development of SMARTs annual budget and capital spending plans.
  • Financial reporting and Audit: working with the Executive Director and our 3rd party accountant, this position will provide quarterly financial reports to the Board of Directors and serve as the main point of contact for SMARTs annual financial audits.
  • Procurement: working with project managers and the Executive Director, this position will assist with procurement processes to ensure compliance with SMART internal policies as well as those as our State and Federal grant partners.
  • Customer Communications: Coordinate rider communications: website updates, service alerts, social media, and printed materials. Maintain consistent communications through all platforms. Assist with community outreach activities such as rider surveys, stakeholder meetings, and events.
  • Media: Draft press releases and respond to routine media inquiries
  • Presentations: Support Board and public presentations with reports, visuals, and prepared materials.
  • Develop Communications Strategy: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain a commonly defined communications strategy for the organization and specific projects.
  • Organizational Ability: Multi-tasking and ability to keep yourself organized. The successful applicant will have the ability to manage multiple projects and oversee multiple contracts and grants.
  • Written Skills: Good writing skills are required. The successful applicant will have the ability to adequately write emails, internal reports/memos, and policy and grant proposals and be able to assist the Executive Director with proofreading important documents.
  • Time Management: Successful applicant must be able to effectively manage their time in the office, identify priority tasks and initiatives, respond in a timely manner to questions from the public, SMART Board members or other stakeholders and maintain a healthy work/life balance.

This is a salaried position with full benefits including retirement, health/vision/dental insurance, and annual ski pass to Telluride Resort. Hiring range is $80,000 to $90,000 annually depending on qualifications.   • Ideally have at least 5 years of experience in the transit industry, with experience in planning, operations, grant and contract management.
